Surfboard repair

Surfboard repair for Peniche, Baleal, Ferrel, Foz do Arelho, Caldas da Rainha, Óbidos, São Martinho do Porto and Nazaré. Dinged your board? Luis fixes them by hand at the Arelho workshop, the same hands that shape them. Dings, fin boxes, snapped boards and delamination, in polyester or epoxy, and any board, not only a Watta.

Cracks, pressure dings, snapped noses and tails, fin box and leash plug work, delamination and water damage. Bring it to the workshop by the Óbidos lagoon, or message Luis first and he will tell you what it needs.

The quickest way to a price is a photo. Send a picture of the damage on WhatsApp or by email, with the board length and where the ding is, and Luis will tell you if it is a quick fix or a bigger job, and what it will cost, before you drive down.

Tip: take the photo in good light, straight on to the ding, and add a second shot of the whole board. It saves a trip and gets you a faster quote.

Repair questions

+How much does a surfboard repair cost?

It depends on the damage, and the quickest way to a price is a photograph. Send a picture of the ding on WhatsApp or by email with the board length and where the damage is, and Luis will tell you whether it is a quick fix or a bigger job, and what it will cost, before you drive anywhere.

A small pressure ding or a cracked rail is a different job from a snapped nose or a delaminated deck, so nobody should quote you without seeing it.

+How long does a surfboard repair take?

A small ding is usually a few days, because the resin has to cure properly before the board goes back in the water and rushing that is how a repair fails.

Bigger work, a snapped board, a fin box replacement or delamination, takes longer, and Luis will tell you the turnaround when he sees the photograph. Repairs fit around shaping, so the busy months run a little longer.

+Can you repair both epoxy and polyester surfboards?

Yes, both. They are different materials and they want different resin, which matters more than most people realise: polyester resin on an epoxy board will eat the foam.

Tell Luis which construction your board is if you know, and if you do not, he will work it out from the photograph and the board itself.

+Is it worth repairing a snapped surfboard?

Often yes, and Luis will tell you honestly when it is not. A clean snap in a board worth keeping repairs well and surfs again, though it will carry the join and a little extra weight.

A board that is old, waterlogged or broken in several places can cost more to put right than it is worth, and he would rather say so than take the work.

+Where do I take a surfboard for repair near Peniche?

Luis repairs boards by hand at the Watta workshop in Arelho, Óbidos, by the lagoon. It is a short drive up the coast from Peniche, Baleal and Ferrel, ten minutes from Caldas da Rainha, and he takes boards from Foz do Arelho, Óbidos, São Martinho do Porto and Nazaré as well.

Message first rather than turning up, so he knows the board is coming.

+Do you repair boards that are not Watta boards?

Yes, any board from any shaper or brand. Luis repairs surf schools and rental fleets as well as private boards.

If you run a school or a camp around Peniche, Baleal or Ferrel and have several boards needing work, message him about doing them together.
