Model overview
Classic soul meets modern control. This Modern Single Fin captures the effortless glide, high-line speed and stylish flow of the 1970s, with modern bottom contours and rail profiles worked in. It is for surfers who want to slow their approach, draw clean lines and feel a real connection to the wave face, without feeling stuck when they change direction.
Once locked into the face it generates its own down-the-line speed, and the modern contours take away the stiff feeling of an old single fin, so it redirects reliably whenever you ask. Like every Watta it is shaped by hand and built to you.
Skill level, intermediate to advanced
For a surfer who wants to trim, flow and improve their style. Forgiving forward, crisp when you lean into a bottom turn. The chart gives an advanced and intermediate weight for each size, with a soul-glide option for any weight who just wants to cruise.
Design and conditions
- Wave size
- 2ft to 6ft plus, waist high to well overhead.
- Wave type
- Clean beach breaks, rolling point breaks and open walls. It excels where you can set a high trim line and draw long, sweeping cutbacks.
- Outline
- A sleek, pulled-in nose and a slightly wider midpoint shifted forward. A classic teardrop template into a pinned tail block for drive and stability.
- Rocker
- Gentle, continuous entry rocker for early entries and glide, with a subtle tail kick for tighter pivotal turns in the pocket.
- Bottom
- Modern single-to-double concave or panel vee through the back third, so it tilts and moves rail to rail unlike a flat old single fin.
- Rails
- Tucked-under performance edge in the tail blending to softer, rolled rails up front. Forgiving forward, crisp when you lean into a bottom turn.
- Fin setup
- Single fin box, centre only. Best with a classic flex fin, 7 inch to 8.5 inch depending on length, for that springboard drive out of turns.
