Model overview
When the tour hits heavy water or the winter swell pushes your everyday shortboard past its limit, this is the weapon. The LA Performer Step-Up is the big-wave extension of professional surfer London Almida's signature design, merging his fast reflex parameters with a sleek, drawn-out outline and a round pin tail for absolute hold, knife-like rail control and confidence on critical late drops and hollow, high-speed barrels.
The foam under the chest lets you paddle with speed and stick critical drops without pearling, the round pin anchors the tail and kills slides on high-velocity carves, and the thin rails lock a line inside a heavy tube. Volume is stripped for elite control, so size sensibly. Like every Watta it is shaped by hand and built to you.
Skill level, advanced to elite
A pro-series step-up for strong, experienced surfers in serious waves. Leaned-out, low volume, built for precision and hold rather than forgiveness. The chart gives the pro-competition weight range for each size.
Design and conditions
- Wave size
- 5ft to 10ft plus, well overhead to double overhead and beyond.
- Wave type
- Heavy, powerful beach breaks like winter Supertubos, punchy reefs and charging points. Built to hold control and drive through high-speed turns and offshore chop.
- Outline
- Sleek, narrow and heavily pulled-in, with a forward wide point for paddle acceleration into fast swells and a tapered tail that keeps you locked in.
- Rocker
- Increased nose rocker to stick ultra-steep, critical drops, with an extended, smooth tail rocker for precise control and tight tracking in the pocket.
- Bottom
- Refined single-to-double concave into a subtle vee off the tail, prioritising stability and predictability so it does not skip out at top speed.
- Tail
- Refined round pin. A smooth, continuous curve that anchors the tail and eliminates slides on high-velocity carves.
- Rails
- Ultra-low, crisp performance rails that slice into the wall for maximum bite when you lock your edge inside a heavy barrel.
- Fin setup
- Five-fin convertible box. Thruster for classic control and drive on big open faces, or quad for maximum speed and hold high on the tube wall.
