Model overview
When the horizon turns black and the swell of the season arrives, this is the board you trust. The Heavy Wave Step-Up is built for powerful, challenging surf, late take-offs and critical tube riding. A sleek, pulled-in outline and a classic round pin tail give maximum hold, control and knife-like rail engagement when the ocean demands absolute precision.
The rocker and volume let you match fast-moving swells and stick critical drops, the round pin anchors the board and kills slide-outs, and the thin rails set an edge with total confidence inside a heavy barrel. Like every Watta it is shaped by hand and built to you.
Skill level, advanced
A specialist board for strong surfers in serious waves. Volume is packed under the chest for paddle power and thinned at the rails and tail for control. The chart gives an advanced and strong or heavy-water intermediate weight for each size.
Design and conditions
- Wave size
- 6ft to 12ft plus, well overhead to double overhead and beyond.
- Wave type
- Heavy beach breaks, powerful points, reefs and hollow, throwing barrels. Built to manage extreme speed and cut through chop on large faces.
- Outline
- Heavily pulled-in nose and tail, widest point slightly forward for paddle acceleration into heavy waves, with a narrow tail that keeps you locked in.
- Rocker
- Increased nose rocker to stop pearling on steep, vertical drops, with continuous tail rocker for secure, tight control in the pocket.
- Bottom
- Subtle single-to-double concave or light vee through the tail, prioritising control and predictability so it does not skip out at speed.
- Rails
- Refined, low-profile performance rails. Thin and sharp, they cut into the face like a knife when you set your edge in a heavy barrel.
- Fin setup
- Five-fin convertible box. Run it as a thruster for predictable pivot and drive, or a quad for maximum speed and hold high on the tube wall.
